What precedes momentum?

I just finished reading an article by Antony Young, the CEO of Optimedia U.S., about social media.
In it he suggests that social media is just another promotional venue.
For example, the popularity of the DellOutlet, he said, boils down to the product offers in its twitter feed.

Here’s my take on it:
Significance always precedes momentum—and social media is no exception to that rule.
Consider the two people also mentioned in the above article:
The seemingly unavoidable twitter users Charlie Sheen and Ashton Kutcher.
Charlie Sheen’s career began in the early 198os.
He has played prominent roles in some of the best movies ever filmed.
Think Wall Street. Think Platoon.

Ashton Kutcher played a prominent role in the very popular Fox sitcom That ’70s Show.
He was also the executive producer and host of 69 episodes of Punk’d — a popular hidden camera/practical joke television series; and he is incredibly active in a number of interesting ventures.

I could go on, but in short:
Significance always precedes momentum—and social media is no exception to that rule.
