How much does writing matter in the digital age?

The dominant activity in today’s digitally powered world is reading.
Offline, online—what line?
People are often surprised to hear this.
But you don’t have to take my word for it.

“Writing is making a comeback all over our society. Look at how much people e-mail and text-message now rather than talk on the phone. Look at how much communication happens via instant messaging and blogging. Writing is today’s currency for ideas.”

That’s not me talking.
That’s Jason Fried & David Hansson talking in their bestselling book titled Rework.
If writing is making a comeback, than people must be reading more than ever before, right?

We need more good writers.
Nowadays, much of our behaviour is influenced by online search.
No matter what you search for online, you find more chaff than wheat.
This is your big opportunity.

What most people really want are meaningful stories from people they trust.
The big brands understand the value of bringing good writers on board.
But you don’t have to take my word for it.

My 2¢: To become a good blogger it’s necessary to be a good writer. In business, and in life, attention is a currency that is not easily earned. So what can you do? A lot. How are you at describing your brand’s story on your website or in your brochures? How’s that working for you? Should you consider hiring a professional writer/storyteller/blogger?
