Can’t let that slide

In a recent episode of the TV show Men of a Certain Age titled Can’t let that slide (episode #9 of the second season), one of the three main characters was having a really hard time confronting a longtime colleague/advisor about a personal character flaw that was negatively affecting the company they both worked for.

Has this ever happened to you? Why do people and/or companies get stuck in behaviour patterns that may have been effective ten months or ten years ago? Because often, unfortunately, those around us who may have no problem correcting our minor flaws let the big ones slide.

This is why, I think, the so called “Open Letter” to RIM’s senior management, written by an unnamed and apparently verified RIM employee, has received so much attention in the media today (Jun 30, 2011). Sure, the content of the letter was surprising, but even more so the fact that it was actually written.

My 2¢: It’s not a good idea to let the big ones slide.
